oxygen acetylene torch on the PlasmaCam?

Post by MQUICK »

Has anyone here installed a oxygen acetylene torch to the PlasmaCam? Every now and then I have to send out some cutting that is too thick for the my plasma to cut. They use a CNC oxygen acetylene torch and does a great job. I don't think this should be a hard thing to do on the PlasmaCam. Famous last words I know.

Creating a mount for the torch would be pretty trivial.

However you still have two issues to overcome as far as I can see:

1. You have to be able to regulate the state of the cutting stream while the torch is in motion.
2. You have to be able to pause the torch long enough to preheat the material before beginning your cut.

These two requirements add a pretty hefty layer of complexity to the equation. You need a mechanical switch slaved to the cutting software, and you need to be able to pause the cutter when required.

If you were willing to perform the process semi-manually, here's what I'd try:

1. Use the move to function to move the torch to the cut in point.
2. Select the cut path.
3. Manually start the torch.
4. Once you get the cut started, start your cut with autocut unselected (in case you forgot to unhook your plasma cutter...).

Hmm... I'll try to design a holder for a straight torch and post it here.
