Plasmacam Height Control?

Post by Bella Proto »

I posted this question on another site then thought i should post it here...TIA.
I'm looking at purchasing a used DHC2 Plasmacam. I have pictures of the machine. Is there a way I can tell by the pictures what torch height control it has, None, Basic or Advanced? I'm just hoping it has a version of Designedge over the earlier SW. I see it does have a single wire that goes down to the torch?
Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I go take look at it....

I'm not a owner yet. Don't you have to be a register owner to post on the owners group?

I am almost positive that the DHC2 represents the advanced height control.

It's a little confusing as their price sheet lists "Digital Height Conrol Options" for the DHC2. No info as far as what the options might be.

I am not sure about that. Contact PlasmaCam at their toll-free number and ask them!

Just an FYI the earlier versions of their software allowed you to export DXF files. The newer versions it was taken away and the option is a costly add on. So besides Height control you want to make sure you can exports DXF files if that is important to you. If not, disregard this post.

From a hardware point of view all of the components are identical regardless of the level of software. The earlier DHC2's all had "Ohmic" material sensing capability and good height control functions, however, after Design Edge software was introduced (roughly 5 years ago) the software was split up into modules and advanced height control with ohmic contact became an option. I suspect Plasmacam did this so that they could compete on a level playing field with Torchmate machines......which could be ordered with no height control and limited software at a lower price.

Best bet is to ask the seller about his software levels.....if he does not know, then use his machine serial number and name, call tech service at Plasmacam, explain that you are thinking of buying and would like to know the software levels on this machine (serial number, name that the machine was registered to).

Note that if it does not have Design Edge and ohmic sensing that it is a simple update done online. It could be a bargaining chip to get a lower price from the seller.
