Plasmacam 98z Z axis trouble

Post by Heritageironmn »

Need help with an issue I am having with the Z axis.

About a week ago I was running a job on the table when someone set
An object on the gantry and CRASH!

Now the problem I have is this:
After fixing everything that needed repair. Bent pieces of metal,
Dip switches, reset torch, ect... The Z axis started to act up.
The table Initiates then goes to cut. Everything is fine the first cut the
Z axis goes down to find the plate and cuts perfect. Then it moves to the
Next cut.
Instead of going down to find the plate it raises and begins to cut or try to cut.
Let it go and it continues on to the next cut and raises the Z-axis again without
Finding the plate.
So, dip switches right.
Go to diaog and switches say middle on Z axis.
Press the torch head to actuate the switches and everything appears
To work fine.
Checked wiring
Checked switches
Torch fires it just wont find the plate to set cut height.
Checked settings

Plasmacam 98z
HP 45
Followed hypertherm cut charts for settings

Thank you for any help in advance.

Try pulling your connections apart at the motors ans bending the female connectors a little more closed. I had the same issues, what it was, was a bad connection. Also make sure the consumables are clean.

I would try calling Plasmacam's tech team. They still offer parts and service for them even though the machines are not sold anymore. The 98z was Plasmacam's first machine produced back in 1998 and in many ways doesn't really compare (besides the color)technologically to the newer Dhc2 machines.

Give them a call and they should be able help and or get you the parts they need quickly and easily.
