I have to tell you, this laser just might push me over the edge to get a a REAL laser soon. This thing is awesome! The first outdoor test happens tomorrow, right after the banjo lesson. Yep, I am a learnin' to play the banjo too. I am going to experiment with the various foams, white styrofoam, the black closed cell foam that is normally used in equipment cases, also HDU (Sign Foam) and others. is to lay out the interior of equipment cases, and build the foam inserts layer by layer, gluing them together and moving the interior shapes as needed. I have to move the laser outside tomorrow, and try to cut up a mat, to see if it cuts, or if I set the house on fire. 
I would think that it should cut the mats well. They are dark gray, which the blue diode lasers require, and the foam is medium density. Who knows! Maybe I will start a new trend. I am not there yet. too many things getting in the way. Maybe tomorrow? Or maybe after Wednesday? I got into the shop and started cleaning and sorting, and a few hours later, the day was over.
I will make some videos of the process once I dive into it, with fire extinguisher at the ready!
