Torch not remembering where it is

Hello all, first let me say as a new shop teacher this forum has been awesome!

I just updated my old Hypotherm 1000 with a new Duramax torch and the cuts are perfect. The problem I'm having is that I will make a few cuts on a sheet on my Plasma Cam 4x4 table. Then come back to make more cuts in the empty space on my sheet and all of a sudden the grid does not correlate with my software. Is this a bug in the computer or something mechanical. It's like the whole grid has shifted an inch on both x and y but my settings have not changed. Please help with your expertise. Thank you!

In my limited experience it’s been a bug in Mach3 and loose parts. The bug in Mach3 got better when I made sure it was the only app open. Check your motors though most commonly in my case a gears set screw backed off or skipped teeth when torch hit the material or part flipped up.

Also what software are you running?

He said it's a PlasmaCam, so he probably wouldn't be running Mach3.
I would check for loose parts that could be slipping and throwing off the homing.

Yes - I agree. Clamp your sheet of material down to the table so there is no possibility of inadvertent movement while or after you are cutting.
