Hypertherm 1250

Post by Patrick Waite »

Hi all I just traded in my Hypertherm 1000 for a Hypertherm 1250. The guy gave me 1,000.00 dolar for it. Now I have a 1250. The reason for the change was the duty cycle. it seams that with the 1000 there is a 80% duty cycle. I guess that mean it will run for about 4 or 5min before it shuts off. It will get over heated. On the 1250 it has a 100% duty cycle. Which will run continous for a while. Which I needed for long cut. If anyone ever had this problem its not you or your drawing. Its the Plasma cutter.

Patrick,

Actually neither the 1000 or the 1250 are 100% duty cycle machines. Their duty cycle ratings are based on a 104 degree ambient temperature, and are based on the design load voltage at full output amperage. There is also a factor related to the input voltage that you are operating the system on. The 1000, when cutting at its maximum output is about 50% duty cycle, the 1250 at its maximum output will run at about 60% duty cycle. These are very good ratings for air plasma system...and it is a rare case that you woulb be able to exceed the duty cycle under most conditions.

If you reduce the output current of the Powermax1000 to about 46 amps (from its maximum of 60), it can be expected to operate at 100%. The 1250 will do the same if the output current is set at approximately 65 amps. If duty cycle is exceeded on either of these units...the plasma arc will extinguish, the internal fan will remain on, and when the unit reaches a safe internal operating temperature it will again allow operation.
