Hyperthermia 65 vs 45xp

Post by OTHill »

I have used a 65 for 10 years on cnc cutting with candcnc electronics. Am thinking of selling it and upgrading to 45xp. It will be hand torch again. Just a few questions. Does the 45 come with cnc connector and there is a little rewiring required because of hand torch? In 10 years I have only cut a few sheets of 1/2in.plate by far the majority of my cutting is 10 and 14 ga.

By default the hand torch configurations do not come with a cnc connector however you can likely order a system with a hand torch + cnc connector and if not you can certainly order the cnc connector separate and add it on. I suspect with the cnc connector installed you can just tie the torch trigger closed on the hand torch and be done with it but I could be wrong. Alternatively if your electronics do not require a divided voltage signal and works with a raw voltage signal you can eliminate the cost of the cnc connector and just make the 4 connections inside on your own.

Thanks for the reply! I've bought a 45xp at a local dealer and ordered the cpc port. It will take a couple of weeks to get the connector but I've got time.

I'm not quite sure why you would consider switching from the Powermax 65 to the 45xp an upgrade, unless you plan on using the etching function of the 45xp. I personally own and use both the Powermax 85 and 45xp and they are both great machines. I use the Duramax hand torch on both machines. You can purchase the 45xp with the CPC port already installed, or add it as an upgrade to an existing machine. I don't know what table you are using, but for the Plasmacam the CPC port is only used for machine torches. With the hand torch there is a specific torch control cable which incorporated the required voltage divider for monitoring the arc voltage for torch height control. For your application, you will either use the divided arc voltage output from the CPC port or If no CPC port, then the same method you have previously been using with your Powermax 65.

Thanks for replying! There are several reasons for the change over.
1 The ongoing frustrating code 30 problems with my 65 never did get on top of that one. It's never been a problem with hand cutting.
2. My son inlaw needs a plasma for handheld cutting only so he gets the 65
3. By far the most of my cutting is 14 and 10 ga.
4. I do some quite intricate cutting and the low speed fine cut charts on the 45 appeal to me
5. I want to try out the marking /etching

Those are all great reasons to switch over to a brand new 45xp. I own a 45xp, but have not yet tried out the marking/etching feature. I've been told that the etching/marking works best with Argon gas as opposed to compressed air. It's always pretty exciting to get a new toy, so enjoy!
