Powermax 45XP Raw Arc is gone!

Post by attila0216 »

Hi everyone. Today in my workshop i wanted to hook up my Powermax 45XP to a CNC table. This table has an XPTHC-4 THC from Hydcnc. Table controller is startcnc. Very strange setup. I have realized that THC voltage divider board need 1:1 raw arc voltage. So i dissasambled the cover of the XP45 and located the raw arc + and - . When i fire torch it varies all over on the multimeter from 45 to 521V. What can be wrong? On the CPC port 50:1 volt is stable. When i fire torch approx. 2,8Volts. Any idea?

I don't think that's all that strange. Your monitoring a range of 0-100's of volts compared to divided where your monitoring 0-2 or 3 volts. I would expect to see a bigger swing. I find raw voltage very easy to work with and have always had better luck with it than divided anyway. Hook it up and giver er a go.

The problem is that it is abnormal. i had powermax 65 and 85 as well before. But never seen 520Volts coming out when torch fired.

Yes, that does sound high but I am nor pro so maybe its not uncommon. Was the arc transferring to the material or was it free air? If you cut a simple straight line at the correct cut height or .060" what is your arc voltage read on the voltmeter?

Ah man, go figure. I had just assumed you were reading voltage with a multimeter when I replied. Glad you sorted it out and thanks for posting your solution.
