Hello,
Besides the consumables, is there anything that 'wears out" in a plasma cutter? I have the option to buy a used Powermax85 that was owned by a professional welder, pictures indicate it was well used. It only has a hand torch. Price is $2800 CDN, retail being $5300 CDN with hand torch. For $5800 CDN with CPC and machine torch if purchased new from states, I haven't found a local shop with machine torch to get a price other than MSRP, well over $6k. I would have to add a machine torch and a consumable kit which works out to about $1000 CDN. So the used machine vs new with machine torch is $3800 vs $5800. If something does fail on these what do replacement parts run? Is a 2K saving worth the risk of no warranty?
Thanks.
Buying used powermax85 or new?

You'll also have to figure in the CPC/voltage divider parts or some way to read arc volts if you're going to use a THC. As far as wear parts, there is an automatic pressure regulator and an air valve that could wear, and I supposed the cooling fan motor.
My 65 is over 5 years old and I never used the warranty. But I wouldn't say it's heavily used.

Thanks for the insight. I've questioned some of my decisions to buy used in the past. Sometimes it works out and others I'd be farther ahead just buying new.

Going off of the "well used" description, I would probably go with the new unit if it were me. But it all depends on your budget.

I don't know where you're located but the 85's with machine torch and CPC port are only $4,075 at Bakergas.com free shipping.
