New Powermax 65

Post by Mr. Fixit »

I just set up my new PM 65 on a machine table that has a Blade Runner from CandCNC. The Hypertherm is replacing a Brand X which I had used for several years. I am sure that I will have numerous questions as I get going, but to start with, I noticed what appears to be a loose section in the new machine torch. Is this normal? If not, how do I address it, or do I have the torch mounted incorrectly? Is it okay to send a Dropbox link with a short video? If not, how can I send the vid?

Thank you very much.

the torch sections are screwed together like pipes have you tried to tighten it, also there are 3 screws that hold the tip portion on the torch they could be loose.

Prior to posting, I did do a search and found this (or similar) posting with photo. I then went after those screws and they seemed tight and I didn't want to over tighten them. I will remove the torch and check again.

Thank you..

I just checked again and those screws are tight. Maybe this will help. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xhd9dqexz6775 ... 2.MOV?dl=0

Looking at your video I don't think that is right, I would call Hypertherm tech support.
Also Jim Colt replies to post here, I'm sure he will have a comment about that.

The area that looks loose should have internal threads....it looks like it simply needs to be tightened. It is a large diameter thread machined into both pieces of melamine / fiberglass tube. Jim Colt

Jim,

Thank you for your response. I was concerned that I was going to damage something since I feel resistance when trying to turn that part. I checked in with technical support and the gentleman that I spoke with suggested that I loosen the strain relief at the top of the torch And then tighten as you have suggested.
