Using finecuts without increased pierce heightt
I am looking to upgrade to a 45xp. I cut 20-16 ga. with a table that does not have the ability to pierce higher than the cut height. - An older Cybermation. The finecut data calls for a cut height of .06 and a pierce height of .09" Is anyone using finecut consumables and cutting at the same height as the pierce?

I can tell you that they function better at a cut height of .08 but I think my pierce is set at .15. Either way, I bet if you cut and pierce at .08 you will be fine. Possible that it might shorten consumable life slightly but I'd wait to hear that conjecture from Jim Colt.

Re: Using finecuts without increased pierce heightt
Up through (and including) 14ga, my cut height and pierce height is the same. I don't have a pierce delay for 16ga and thinner. Jim Colt recommends .06 cut height up through 16ga, and .075 cut height from there to 1/8".
Long story short, for your material thicknesses, you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. It gives me enough confidence to take the plunge.

You can get away with .060" cut and pierce height if you stay under 16 gauge and use a bit of pierce delay (to allow the pierce to penetrate before motion starts). Use the roller ball plate rider that is on the Cybermation to maintain the height. Jim Colt Hypertherm
