Monstera Leaf Panel Insert DXF
I posted a Monstera leaf last week after I helped a buddy out with drawing and cutting one on his new plasma. It all went very well so we got to work on designing this door panel which was his original idea but I suggested we baby step it up to this point. This is designed to be incorporated into an entrance gate to his patio area but of course this could have numerous uses like a fence, railing, or gate insert, window storm protection, etc. so hopefully some other members here find this useful. I think the design itself turned out really nice and should be a clean cutter but let me know if you find any issues.

This look nice. When I open your dxf, many intersections show up.
Here is your file edited to remove these, which could possibly cause minor problems when cut. Namely the features with all the intersections may not fall out when cut.

Good catch David, I think I have stared at this for so long my eyes got lazy! My software doesn't show me issues like that, I have to hunt them down myself. That's a pretty cool feature. Thanks for fixing that up and reposting.

You also have small sharp points where you combined the leaves incorrectly. I would smooth those out before you cut it.

Not seeing what your referring to Joe? Can you point one of those areas out?

Re: Monstera Leaf Panel Insert DXF
I know these were originally points of leaves, but they are a finger snagger for sure. you might want to smooth them, or omit them entirely. I would also make sure that no tight spot can catch the finger of a curious unattended CHILD who sticks a finger through a hole to trace the shape, only to discover he or she is now trapped. Make no hole big enough for them to stick their head through, and no hole small enough to capture a finger knuckle!

Ah yes, I see what you mean Joe. I just dropped all the leaves on the panel and welded them all together and didn't concern myself with the leaf tips overhanging other leaves. I think it will still cut just fine don't you think?

Re: Monstera Leaf Panel Insert DXF
It will CUT fine. But I am only warning you ... you must think about what a CHILD will do around this door. If a child can trap a finger knuckle in a groove of the metal, it presents a problem. Once a kid slips a finger into a tight spot, he or she will not CALMLY work the finger free. Panic will set in, and the child can be hurt trying to PULL the finger away from the door. I guess I know too many lawyers. I don't make anything, without trying to second guess brain dead kids!

I see what your saying Joe and your spot on. For this project there will be a back plate behind it to prevent that, he doesn't have children but does have pets so this was also a concern.

No, the plan is to use a sheet of CR steel with natural rust patina for the background and black powder coat for the leaf panel. Should look cool. I think it would be better the other way around but the guy I am helping has a good point that rusty water may run down the powder coated backing panel off the leafs and stain the powder coat finish.

Great looking panel, my wife's a huge fan of Monstera plants, I may be able to use this on a smaller scale. Thanks for posting!

Nice design, easily edited for different sized panels. Thanks for sharing
