Misc Brackets, Plates, Etc.

Post by topkote »

Hi folks,

I know there are a lot of places that sell designed DXF files for metal art type stuff but is there any place one can purchase files with an assortment of brackets, mounting plates etc. I know some machine software comes with some already included but mine doesn't. If something is available, I am interested.

Thanks,
Mike

Tell me what you need. I will draw it for you at no charge. I am retired, and I do it for FUN :HaHa

DesignEdge software is EXACTLY what you need to create these files EASILY. Braces and brackets, and saddles, and such are CHILD'S PLAY with DesignEdge.

You can also easily draw these yourself using Google Sketch Up and about a dozen other free software programs.

Design Spark Mechanical comes to mind. There are so many others. A slight learning curve, maybe. But for simple brackets, braces, saddles, etc., you have a lot of choices.

Of course, DesignEdge is the BEST! :Yay

Thanks guys I'm looking to make a 7" round metal base with 4 bolt holes 4 1/2" on center for a LED beacon light. I appreciate the leads on the software. I am using MyPlasm as a cutting software. I've been working with Inkscape and have learned a lot from your folks I just haven't ventured into designing stuff from scratch yet.

You didn't say what size holes you want, but here is one with 1/2" holes.

Or perhaps you actually wanted the holes on a 4.5" bolt circle.

Hi Mike, is something like this what you're looking for? What diameter holes were you wanting?

To me your wording is ambiguous. To me, 4 1/2" on center means 4 1/2" center to center. But perhaps you really wanted them on a 4 1/2" bolt circle.

I would have a really hard time trying to figure out how to do this (or any other mechanical parts for that matter) using Inkscape. I consider Inkscape more for artsy type stuff. But I know it can be done, because I saw one fellow who did an entire mechanical design including dimensions using Inkscape. I did this with Design Edge, but AutoCad or Bricscad would also be some of my choices as I am familiar with them. Fusion 360 would also be easy for this and it is free. Solid Edge is free and would be another potential candidate.

Here is how I would do it with Fusion. This is pretty much as fast and easy as doing it with AutoCAD or Design Edge.

I SO want to participate in a design contest, for FUN! Everyone in a ZOOM room, one person tossing out some design via verbal instructions, or a list of text, or a napkin sketch, and see who produces the exact part first! There doesn't even need to be any prize. just the FUN of it would be sufficient.

David is correct. By your description, it could be drawn either way.

FreeCAD is free and there are Youtube videos to help you learn. This is a vital skill, if you are ever going to make anything with a plasma table. I would hate to have to depend on purchasing files for every project.

So which one were you looking for? The plate with the holes at 4.5" center to center, or the plate with the holes on a 4.5" bolt circle?
Thanks,

In additional to the hole size, do you want the holes with 4.5" spacing center to center, or do you want the holes located on a 4.5" bolt circle?

I am reminded of a lesson taught to me by my high school English teacher. He asked me if I could draw. I told him I can draw BASIC images, and asked what he needed.

"A man chasing a cat with a broom in his underwear."

FOUR different images immediately popped into my mind.

I asked, "Who has the broom? The man, or the cat? Who is wearing underwear? The man, or the cat?

She said, "Now you understand the importance of PUNCTUATION!" :HaHa

"A 7" round plate with four holes 4" on center ... " tells the fabricator very little.
