Cowboy and young son

Post by i_r_machinist »

Bought this off of esty yesterday and recieved several formats. Just not one I could use. Searched my SignTorch collection and it wasn't there. I also went to Delapp. Wrote the store back and they said they only had rights to embroidery files, .dst,.png,.pec... Going on a fire pit for Elks Lodge.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You say that it came as a PNG file, well Inkscape exports PNG files, so I'm sure it will import them as well. Inkscape is FREE so you can try it and see if it will change your file to DXF for you. :Yay

Sorry I didn't have what you needed i_r, thank you so much for checking. In answer to your question I have no idea who's file that is but I looked up a similar jpeg and sketched it out real quick for you, hope it helps. Scaled to 14.5"x20". As Larry states Inkscape will import/save as .png but in my experience must be "traced" by selecting Path, then Trace Bitmap. However for me quicker to just pull the pic into cad and let the nodes do the talking. :Yay

Larry, the wife does all the inkscape stuff. My 56 year old brain is loaded to capacity on cadcam programs and seems to be balking on absorbing any more.
Thanks & I'll tell her.

I know the feeling (brain overload) but I have a better excuse, I have you by 18 years. I started out with a hand written CAD program on an APPLE computer in the early nineties (had AutoCad 9 about then) then went on to MasterCam when I changed jobs '96. I've used a lot of CAD & CAD/CAM programs since then but I really liked MasterCam so I use it the most.

Larry,
APT, Compact2E,Esprit,Autocad,Inventor,AB Plc,Gibbscam, a few others I cant recall the name of, and currently Solidworks. I know just enough MasterCam to be dangerous. Luckily the wife has stepped forward on the Inkscape. Damn, I'm just hoping I remember my way home in 18 years!
Thanks

Sounds like you missed a few. Got Rhino CAD at a software show when it was free, didn't like it, Played in Gibbs CAM, not that great back then. Used several others before I went to work for an aerospace company, convinced them to get Easy Feature Mill but our head programmer didn't like me so we got MasterCam. Used it at work till or Night Superintendent retired then I got that job and I didn't have any company time to program. Got MasterCam for myself and played in it until I retired, still playing because I really don't need to make lots of money, now I only make custom work or when something strikes my fancy I may make it ( or at least try). As for remembering things, just keep trying to learn something every day it keeps the old cells working. Glad you have an understanding wife. :Yay Took me another try to find my lady love but things are great now! :Yay :Yay :Yay

You give me way more credit than is due my friend. :-D Though your words fill me with pride. What I've done here anybody can do. Pull the pic into cad and utilizing the node edit tool I first draw the profile of these guys by zooming in and simply follow their outline node by node till I make it back to where I started. Except for the flowers in the boys hand, maybe next time. :Yay Then I'll pick a detail or two to highlight like the hats, belt line and collar. Last but not least I drew the ground/shadow at their feet and "welded" it to the profile making it one piece. May sound like a tall order but I promise it took longer to post this than it did to actually draw the file. So you're most welcome and as always I thank you!

Just an honest explanation and once one has the hang of it is quite simple and much faster to me. Just the way my brain adapted to working in cad as scan/trace features leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. I'm glad I'm here as well, to me this is an outstanding forum. I really enjoy contributing to our community here as one without much to give, give in the only way I really can.
Thank you Larry. Your (and Doug's) compliments made my day.

Thank you for the file. I changed it a little to adjust the right arm. Ben's time here is not waisted. I practice every day.
