Same thing for me. Inkscape doesn't like many types of dxf files and leaves you limited. Try converting your dxf files to svg files before opening them in Inkscape with https://www.dxfconverter.org/ It has worked great for me and worked on this one. See attached svg

thanks Plasmanewbie that conversion site worked great on a file I was having a problem with, did nee to use the simplify function in Inkscape to reduce the nodes.

If you are looking at the original post, the attachment is in dxf format. So I would imagine you would select dxf. Otherwise try converting to SVG format as was previously suggested.
