USA Eagle Flag DXF Design

Post by John Frantum »

I'm shutting down, it has become more of a hassle to rely on my source for laser cutting, so until I can set up a system of my own, I'm done.
This has been a popular item for us, so I thought I'd share it, I will also, periodically, share some of our other files.
This is just a combination of files I found on this site, so it should cut well for you.
Thanks for all the files that all of you have shared.

great file thanks for posting, interesting note both QCAD and Inkscape open it as 2 separate drawing on a page and Turbocad 2018 opens it as a single on a page??

Question, I am new to this and run Torchmate at my program as a teacher. I have exported a few dxf but never imported. I would like to use this file above but when I import it it shows dotted lines everywhere and acts as it is not a solid image. Any advice? Can I just import and make a cut path then cut it?

Very nice file, thank you!!! As for the Torchmate, this happens a lot to me. Highlight the pattern, go to arrange and select make a path. Then go to arrange and connect path. Change the allowable error to .010 and hit enter. Some times it works sometimes it doesn't. Your pattern should turn to an image that is blacked out for uncut parts. If this doesn't happen pm me and I can help you some more.

Thanks for the file. I've always wanted to cut one of the many variations of these flags but have yet to do it. I have not moved to powder coating yet so I'm still priming and spray painting. Could someone tell me how is the best way to paint one of these flags? Do you just use painters tape and do a lot of masking, painting, masking painting? I guess whatever the process, it would be the same whether powder coating or spray painting?

Thanks to everyone for all of the assistance and great designs!

I use rattle can with taping off the different colors, I have done a small amount of power coating but cannot get my head around multi-colors on one part

Thank you sir. I felt pretty sure there wasn't really a "short cut" to avoid all of the taping. lol I guess with anything worth doing, there's a cost and the cost of having a nice looking piece with multiple colors is the time and effort taping and masking.

I do hope to start dabbling in powder coating in the near future but like you, I'm not sure about the multiple color process. I know that there is heat resistant tape for masking. However, I haven't figured out if you "bake" one color, then spray and bake the second color or exactly how that works. It looks like the first color applied would end up getting heated too much.

Either way, powder coating or not, every time I design, cut or paint a new piece it seems like I learn something new! I love it and I'm especially thankful for all of the folks such as yourself who have helped answer questions and offered advice during my short time working with metal art.

I used pin striping tape for masking the eagle, you can get it at most auto part stores in 1/8" and 1/4" widths.
I hope that helps.

Dotted lines are broken paths. It is a nice file but is not cut ready with Torchmate. You will have to do a lot of clean up to make it cut. That said, it should save you a lot of time in not having to do the complete artwork. We have done similar flags for PD and Fire. We do a lot of these for fallen officers. Sad to say but we were doing so many we had to modify it and add a replaceable badge plate for "End of Watch"

It is a nice variation on a very popular design. Wish you good luck!
