Just out of curiosity... You mention the center piece represented as "copper". Couldn't a person delete the cut path around the center circle, put the center hole for the clock into the main piece and just make sure it cuts first? If you wanted a solid piece just mount the clock movement in and there you go, without having to weld the center piece back in.
