Help with making a reducer-Muffler Reducer

Post by SlapNutz Fabrication »

Can anyone help me with making a reducer for a boat muffler? I'm an not sure how to lay it out. It needs to be 3in od at one end and 4in od at the other end after it has been rolled.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

This, honestly, sounds like something you could get as a preformed connector from any decent online speedshop. I gotta think it would be cheaper to buy than make. Also, anytime you have an exhaust, the flow output is supposed to be "ID".

In fact, it took me 2 mins to find them on Summit Racing

I can draw you a 3 piece reducer (2 collars and 1 taper) that you can roll and weld up. I'd need your material thickness if you want it exact on the OD.

Edit: Would also need to know overall length and desired length of straight collars at each end (or no collars at all if you're welding inline)

Here's a cone that's 3" x 4" x 2" long.

We will be cutting this out of .125 aluminum and it will be around 8in long. The 3 pc sounds ideal, I just don't have a clue how to lay things like that out. I appreciate the help, and have no problem paying you for your layout, after all time is money.

Here you go. I could lay it out by hand but have a program for HVAC sheetmetal layout that's pretty handy for things like this. Transitions, offsets, square to round, etc. it'll do it all. Cost a bundle but it sure speeds the process up! No charge for this one, if you need any layouts in the future we can talk about that, just send me a private message and I'd be glad to help.

This is all designed to be butt welded, an overlap with that material would be kinda rough! :D Should fit together pretty nice without a lot of grinding. Good luck!
