What gauge material are you guys using? 10g to thin? 3\16?

I have a student who wants to make this, and he asked me to buy the DXF, while I could I told him no, you need to learn to draw, cut and weld this yourself. I am hoping it is not too bold to ask for some numbers? He has drawn it up but it does not look right, can anyone tell me how deep the fire pit area is? It looks like about 10 inches?
