Man-cave bookends

Post by MetalTorcher »

Here's a file I drew up and cut out this afternoon for my daughter's teacher for Christmas. The base is 3/8" and the clamps are 3/16". Kinda heavy but at least they won't slide around. Enjoy.
ps. my username has changed from jasonl to MetalTorcher.

The file you shared is corrupted some how. I get a bunch of swirrly lines taking up the whole page instead of the dips in the screw threads.

One recommendation I would have to all who would want to cut this is maybe scale it down somewhat. It's kinda big, especially the handles. I found after I cut it is that it takes up quite a bit of room.

I would think you could shorten the threads on both ends of each piece, reduce plate size & add skid-resist pad to bottoms. You need something to protect furniture top anyway. This would allow smaller size & would probably work better for it's intended purpose.

Although you would have weigh it out because they sure are fine looking like they are.

I put felt pads on the bottom, but they tend to slide now. No skid like you suggested would be better. A set this size might be better suited to hold encyclopedias.

very nice! one suggestion is to slot the base plate so that the clamp can slide down in and be welded under the base. this way you dont see the weld.

Yes, I had thought of that too late, but then again the welds kinda give it the Tim the ToolMan look

I've never seen it either. The first picture looked like an old tee handle (looked 3-D) I was wondering why it was on this forum until I realized that it actually was not machined. The second picture gave it away. As it was turned sideways it was apparent that it was a cutout,
Got me for a second..Cool file!
