You should be able to do a simple auto trace with Inkscape and save as dxf. You can use the search function to learn more. I'm pretty sure I have shown a step-by-step on how to do this several times in the past.

Here is one of them to get you started. Try to do some of the others yourself and let us know if you have any questions.

Made a rooster weather vane . Set it at the balance point and it spins in the wind. Tried the pivot point a little forward and it kind of points into the wind, but also swings back and forth. What would be your suggestion?

Perhaps your "head" is too large in relation to your "tail". Maybe post a photo of yours so we can take a look.

Sean P did weather vanes here in the past, I think the larger portion needs to be behind the pivot point. Look at it like you are going vertical if you want the tip pointing up it need more in the bottom. The wind will make it act like gravity does. I did not do weather vanes but a wind mill, I had to add the black face to make it work better

Tom- that's what I was thinking also. The smaller arrow portion points to the front, and the larger tail is at the rear. So it is actually out of balance and not pivoting at the center balance point. It will be interesting to see how he has his rooster set up.

Okay, not as easy as it looks. major mass of vane to rear to act as a sail, then add weight to the front (arrow) to balance the vane. I will give that a try. Thank you!
