Re: Custom firepit
I'm wanting to build one like this but having trouble with the sides. We are not able to bend and have to cut and weld. Any help would be great.

Re: Custom firepit
You can cut slots along the bend lines to facilitate bending by hand. You can finish weld slots (or not) after you have the entire assembly aligned and tack welded together.

Re: Custom firepit
I would suggest cutting a sample part to see how easy it bends, and how wide the gap is after bending to the correct angle. You may need to adjust the width of the cuts, and the width of the tabs left for bending after trying out your sample. I did something similar with a fire pit bottom path last year from 11 ga. steel and it worked out fine. You can see the photos from the link below. Admittedly this was a small part, and thinner material, but the basic concept is still the same. I would question the need for 1/4" steel plate for a fire pit, and suggest that 11 ga. (1/8") should be more than adequate for many years to come.

Re: Custom firepit
Thanks. I believe that 10-11 ga is plenty as well. Thanks for all the input. Im ready to get to it now. Actually pretty excited about going to work tomorrow now haha
