Bear in mind, If you move lines to a new layer in sheetcam it will not alter the dxf file
So if you reload the DXF again your work will be lost

You can save the changes in sheetcam but the changes are only valid for that operation

For this reason I prefer to move things into layers in CAD

My preferred layer names are
Inside, for inside offset
None, for no offset
Hole, for true holes
Scribe, For the scribe operations
Outside, for outside offsets

I use a separate tool for hole cutting
The only changes from the book value settings are speed and kurf
When you slowdown the kurf get bigger and therefor the hole is not a true size
To keep my hole sizes true I use the second tool to slowdown which allows me to set the larger kurf
This way when sheetcam offsets the cut it produces a true hole size

Keeping all my dxf files with the above naming allows me to nest a sheet with any number or combination of parts
As the layer names are standardize I have a max of 5 operations per sheet

Sharing information is great, one of the nice things about PS. A reader may select the method they like or feel is easier. When you have things setup in SheetCam as you like, you can save that as a Job for later use. As stated above it is only good for that operation. But may be easier then loading files and configuring them each time. I cannot say if you can reload more then one job at a time , like you can DXF/SVG files for nesting.

Great information! You have a very organized approach, and I think this answers the question very well for Chris.

Sorry for late reply, the file cut quite well on no-offset. The only problem with the original file, was that when cutting the front grill it was putting too much heat when cutting, hence was warping the lines. So i had to alter the design and use bezier lines for the grill part. But other than that it was a good cut.
I just need a way of removing the mill scale from my sheet. Thanks all.

Looks great Chris! Maybe a flap disc on an angle grinder, that's what I do. I use #40 or #60 to remove dross and #80 or #120 to finish.

I use an electro-magnet embedded in the bench to hold down pieces then a 100mm twistknot wire wheel on a 125mm grinder
The wire wheel does not leave the scratch marks that a flap disk does and it lasts for ages
The magnet is made from 2 microwave transformers

I have tried wire wheel on the angle grinder. It works ok for removing dross on the thicker stuff (at least for me), but is problematic on the thinner material in my case. I can see where a magnet might do the trick. I don't mind the scratches as I paint the parts and I feel it might help to promote paint adhesion. I'm using spray cans, not powder coat. I'll have to see about getting an electro-magnet setup to try it out. Do you have a photo of your setup you would be willing to share?
Thanks,
David

Thanks guys, i normally use flap discs as but given the big surface area you can see the swirl marks, i was thinking of using a twist not wheel but didnt want it to snatch at the finer details. I used a belt sander on the other side of the car but needs finishing with a finer grit.

Sometimes I use a d/a sander with 80 grit paper and it gets rid of most of the scratches. Personally I like the scratches or d/a pattern as I think it adds character and lets folks know it is "hand made" and not simply stamped out in China.

Here is a pic of the magnets

The pic was taken after filling the box with resin
I then decked them them flat

There is 2 magnets in each box
Each made from 1200w microwave transformers

The one with the hole in the middle is used on my milling machine
I use this more than a vice holds just about everything
The hole is for drilling through

The second one is mounted in a workbench
I eventually added 2 more to the bench for larger items
I have no issues using these to hold small items up to a full sheet

They are both powered by a 48V 30A Psu

I also have no issues with the wire wheel grabbing as the magnet keeps everything flat and stops it moving
No more clamping and moving clamps
So much quicker to finish off multiple parts

Here is a good video showing the process of making one

Looks good Chris. I believe you could benefit from changing to inside lead-ins instead of cutting "on path".

Yes will do, this design was the 1st time being cut so was juat seeing what would happen etc and will work from there.

For future readers of this thread, Sheetcam will automatically assign the correct offsets if you select "outside offset" in your jet cutting operation.

When you import your file, notice that the lines are different colors. If the drawing does not have errors, outside contours will be Red, Inside contours will be Yellow and open lines will be White. If you select "outside offset" Sheetcam will assign an outside offset to Red lines, inside offset to Yellow lines and no offset(with no lead in/out) to White lines. NOTE: if you select "inside offset" it will reverse all of the offsets.

You can also move lines to another layer, using the "edit contours" tool, if you prefer to do it in separate operations.

You can set "path rules" to slow down for holes, corners, arcs of a certain size, etc., so you don't have to create a separate operation for holes.

Here is an electromagnetic for hold down sold on eBay with over 250 pound pull on it.

SheetCam will cut all inside cuts in a plan before other cuts, don't remember if you need to check a box or it is automatic.
