Mach 3 raising instead of touching

Post by Leeroy6392 »

After first cut it goes to next hole and instead of touching material to get 0 it raises 1/2” and cuts then does the same on the next holes till get goes to a new part.

A little info on your system might help, table manufacture, operational software, screenshot of the part of the G-code that fails.

sounds like you are missing a touchoff sequence but are asking it to return to safe z height.....

did you buy a mach3 licence or given it... as the fake licences have gremlins to mess up your cut.... to be fair it serves those that can't be bothered to buy a licence right!

but give us a clue.... post some screenshots.... gcode anything.... crystal ball is presently on loan to someone else

this was a new purchase table from the manufacturer. After more looking into it and trying to get any help from them i could definitely see it being a false copy not to mention the computer is telling me know this may be a counterfeit windows!!! i chalked it up to being a refurb tower with cheap software. but after reading more on here i am ready to but new tower and get mach 4 to hopefully not have these issues. but it is a roll of the dice on the day if it will work properly and for how long.

Re: Mach 3 raising instead of touching

the touchoff sequence is in there and repeated a number of times

Code: Select all

N0270 G31 Z -100 F19.685
N0280 G92 Z-0.0800
N0290 G00 Z0.1500
consider other options than just buying mach3 as it is no longer developed and has not been updated in nearly 10 years and there are other better and much more cost effective options available at less than $175 including alternative hardware

What would you recommend? I have a spare laptop and thought about getting the Mach4 today. I have looked at flash cut but need to do a total over haul of my table and could honestly spend a little bit more and get one built and delivered. This is used as a portion of my income so I need it to work properly. I also want to add a dthc to it and upgrade my z axis/ torch holder. I Would also be interested in talking to one of you on the phone so I don’t have to wait for a reply just pm me if you are ok with that. Thanks for all the continued help though I would be comepletely lost if it wasn’t for this site!

I try not to recommend anything any more, because I fairly recently recommended something to someone that I use and their development has declined of late and been disappointing.

My journey has been:
Mach3
Mach4
UCCNC
LinuxCNC

I am presently changing to LinuxCNC as it does everything for me (mill, router, plasma and lathe) and is the most flexible (I am not 100% up and running yet, but that is because of my setup sharing drives between various machines from 1 PC). Its learning curve (in my opinion) is steep, but only if you wish to do something out of the ordinary that is....... but that applies to all software(s).

https://cncdrive.com/UCCNC.html
https://forum.linuxcnc.org/plasmac/3723 ... umentation

really you need to do your own research and make a choice.

I have spent a small fortune on hardware over the years, on my journey...... really I should have bitten the bullet years ago and learnt linux + linuxcnc back then and ignored the rest, but YMMV.

There are so many options available now for plasma and cnc controllers, all have positive and negative points, and I have slowly outgrown the standard box offerings over the years.

The problem with MAch3 and Mach4 is that you are dependant upon the developer of the hardware whether items are integrated / available as some functions only exist within the motion controller (such as jogging, probing and simple THC UP and THC DN and laser control (synchronous M-codes)
UCCNC is a bit more closed in that the hardware is backward compatible (largely, some functions are not backward available like THC for Mach4) with Mach3 and Mach4 and UCCNC software is developed specifically for the cncdrive motion controllers.

Linuxcnc appears limitless..... if you can programme..... or get your head into how to do stuff.... I am still learning.

Just do some research and reading. Afterall this is just one persons view and there are 100's , 1000's? or maybe 10,000+ people happy with Mach3, Mach4, UCCNC etc. hence my knowledge is very limited to my own experience and needs and requirements of setup.
