Help with DXF Files on Plasmacam - Samson CNC

Post by riffraff6369 »

I'm using a Samson plasma table with little to no problems. There are some great downloads available on this site but every time I save the file and go open it up through the PlasmaCam software that came with my table it says "Cannot recognize this newer or incompatible PCM format.
Can anyone give me some insight on how to make this work
Thanks.

Use Import to grab the file into the PCam software - but you must click on Import as Cut Paths.

(Lower left-hand corner of the dialog box).

Don't check import as CUT PATHS!
You want to convert to cut paths only after you've link segs, smooth,. etc, In other words after your 100% done with any editing. Editing after converting to cut paths isn't a good, nor easy thing to do.

My Pcam does the same thing, here is how I do it.....

When it says it does not recognize it, click OK.

Go back and click on import file.....

Open the place where your file is at and do it again, it will now open.

Edit it as needed, then save as a PCM file.

Don't know why this happens but ever since I started using Pcam, this has always been the case.

Once saved as A Pcam file, you will never have the problem.

I agree with not importing as cut paths.

It will work but you need to edit everything first or at least look at the file before converting.

Just my two cents :D

I recommend selecting the "LINK SEGMENTS" box instead of "IMPORT AS CUT PATHS" for DXF files. The reason is that if some of objects are drawn as individual lines, such as a drawing a rectangle with four lines, the Link Segments will join the lines so they cut as a single rectangle rather than four lines.
The basic LINK SETTINGS are "Gap distance to jump" of .02 and "Delete over lapping segments" 0.
