not sure this is the right place for my question...

Post by windburned »

To start off I don't have my plasma table just yet (shipping next week) but I want to learn what I can till it arrives. So I bought a few files from etsy to make some grills and planters. Here's my problem, I have the DXF files, but I cannot move the pieces in the DXF file, I tried using inkscape to ungroup it and resave as a DXF, but to no avail. I bought STV Cnc plasma table and they use the myplasmacnc program as their sofware. When I load the file it's laid out on a huge sheet and I cannot nest. Not sure if I'm missing something or just a complete idiot (my money is on me being an idiot). Mods I am soory if this is in the wrong place. I love this site and I've learned a lot so far from being a lurker. Thanks in advance!

I use LightBurn for tracing, resizing, adding text, cleaning up files from others and rearranging/breaking apart dxf's. It wasn't created for plasma but it does a fantastic job for what I want. Also there are lots of YouTube video for instruction.

It is really easy to move parts of your file around using LightBurn. Here is a file that I imported as a dxf.
1.jpg
There is an "Ungroup selection" tool at the top of the page. Simply select all and ungroup.
2 - select and ungroup.jpg
Now you can select individual objects and move (drag) to a new location, rotate, resize, etc.
3 - select individual objects to move, rotate, resize, etc..jpg
When you are finished editing you can use the "Group selection" tool to regroup to a single group.

Etsy also has SVGs. If you are using Inkscape you may want to focus on SVGs.

You can use Convertio (free online file converter) to easily and quickly convert dxf to svg.
