I am getting to much slag on the bottom of my metal when I cut . Any help would be great.

I always try to use the smallest (lower amperage) tip I can for a given material thickness. Using too large a tip for the job will produce a wider kerf which displaces for molten metal and produces more slag. A smaller tip will force you to slow your cuts down but are likely to get better results.
Once I have determined what tip I want to use I cut some 1" square on the material I plan to cut and experiment with different cut speeds. I like to get it running ALMOST as fast as I can without losing the cut. I find that if you are traveling to slow you will be removing more material than you need and also superheating the material making it easier for the slag to accumulate.
