Cut issue

Post by belloutiplasma »

Hello spiders
I have problem with my powermax 85a
When i start the cut the torch lifts up and the flamme is different than normal time
The tip burns after 2 or 3 cuts
The air pressure is good
Value on thc 130
60a with 65a tip
It was working perfectly for 3 years
I changed the torch but same results
Can anyone give me an advice

My first guess would be moisture and or oil in your air supply. I am sure you have some filtration installed however it is not likely enough. Do you see black or grey swirling marks inside your nozzle and around the electrode? Post pics of inside your nozzle and electrode if you can.

Electrode looks usable still but that nozzle is done! After only 1 minute! I would say you have a moisture/oil issue. Would like to see the inside of the nozzle, that's where the stains will be from the oil and water burning up and that will tell you for sure if thats the issue.

The third filter is totaly clean of anything
I know it's looks like moisture or oil issue bit is isn't
I used to put 130 to 135 on my thc bit now it lift up until losing contact
I put 120 on thc so the torch don't lift up but consummables burns immeditatly

Is it possible you have bad consumables, in side the nozzle should show a few paths from the starts not a fully covered burned area. If you have any old nozzles I would compare them
DIY 4X4 Plasma/Router Table
Hypertherm PM65 Machine Torch
Drag Knife and Scribe
Miller Mig welder
13" metal lathe
Small Mill
Everlast PowerTig 255 EXT

Well it is also possible that the torch is coming into contact with the material and burning your nozzles out. The voltage value isn't as important as the actual height between the torch and the material while cutting. If you were to pause the machine mid cut on a nice straight section and measure the distance between the torch and the material what it the measurement? I like to use feeler gauges for this.

Yes - the Hypertherm powermax 85 with Duramax torch uses a swirl ring.

seems unusual to me that there isnt a swirl pattern worn into the ID of the nozzle.
