Setting up and selling dxf files

Post by OTHill »

I'm working at setting up to sell some of my files complete with assembly instructions. This is a new venture for me. Does anyone on here have instructions for me. What kind of structure/format to use. I want it as simple as possible maybe lots of photos with annotations? .

I sell plans to build some of my metal shaping equipment. I include the drawings, step-by-step instructions with accompanying photos, parts/materials list, and an overall explanation of what it is and what it does. Your projects may be simpler. As I recall, you posted several truck/trailers (scale models) assembled from cnc plasma cut parts, painted, and with wheels/tires and perhaps some other parts purchased commercially. I would basically follow the same format as I use modified to suit your particular item.

Those are just to give you some ideas. I expect your presentation to be much simpler and easier to achieve.

I have done the same thing with shop equipment like a Bead Roller and CNC plasma table. Plans were sold through eBay and other online posting (metal working sites) I sold them all over the world. The last delivery method was the Google Drive to their PC directly using their email address. At the start I was copying CDs and mailing them ( overseas was $14.) the Google drive is free.
There are many software packages to create instructional videos to add to you package and they were free too. With digital cameras and cell phones it is very easy to make your own videos and edit them.

Have fun

As far as distribution, I still burn mine to CD and send via USPS priority mail. Most of my sales are on Ebay which require proof of delivery to confirm that the customer actually received his item. For my website sales - I currently send the download link from Google drive. I use Microsoft Word to create the manuals with text and photos, and AutoCad for creating the CAD drawing files. This is all very easy to do, and simply requires a little time and patience to accomplish.
