Hi Everyone,
Maybe in the wrong section,
those using Cor-ten steel, Do you have to remove mill scale for the full rust affect to work ?

G’day, we use corten quite a bit, it will slowly rust if the mill scale is left on and its left outdoors, this can take anywhere from days to weeks depending on the environment. We have a tub with 25% hydrocloric acid and water mix we leave it in for around 8 hours and this really helps with slag removal and also gets rid of all mill scale. Hose it off when it comes out and if you want it to start rusting just let it air dry in the sun.

No worries, we also use the hydrocloric mix in a spray bottle if the item is to large for our tub. Just spray it on, give it 10 - 20 mins and hose off. this will remove the mill scale and oils but wont help with the slag removal.

hello
my trick is 250ml of 3%hydrogen peroxide plus cup of salt in liter of water shake and spray leave on 20 minutes hose off then repeat
