I know stuff like stainless steel, and galvanized steel can be dangerous to cut compared to regular steel.
But what about Corten? Anyone have any information on that one?
I looked into it, the steel grade is actually called A606. And there are several grades. My steel supplier carries type IV. Which looks like it has less of the bad stuff. Because I know Chromium, Nickel and probably some other things in there can be pretty bad. Carbon I'm not sure about. Manganese supposedly OK. Sulfur supposedly OK.
YPE II & IV
CARBON 0.22%
MANGANESE 1.25%
SULFUR 0.04%
COPPER 0.20% MIN
TYPE V
CARBON 0.09%
MANGANESE 0.70-0.95%
PHOSPHORUS 0.025%
SULFUR 0.010%
SILICON 0.40%
NICKEL 0.52-0.76%
CHROMIUM 0.30%
COPPER 0.65-0.98%

Re: Corten Steel Safety
I know some folks who have cut a lot of it - they never mentioned any problems with dangerous fumes. Of course if you are using some sort of exhaust system on your table, then this would be a moot point.
