torch not switching on

Post by leggman »

20201216_153800.jpg
After what seems like years of waiting for parts and scratching my head I finally have my homemade table working but not working.
I can get it to run a program in Mach 3 but my torch (Hypertherm 45XP) will not switch on automatically.
I can switch it on by toggling the torch on switch in Mach 3 and it will shut itself off at the end of the program, It just doesn't come on when it should.
I have the red and black wires (hypertherm) connected to the relay terminals and set for port 1 pin 9.
I also noticed when I run the simulation in sheetcam it shows the torch coming on.
I can not tell if I have something wired wrong or its something not getting into the g code.
On a side note I wish to publicly thank Tom V. for all the help he has been to me. I definitely would not be this far without his help

Usually M3 is torch on and M5 is torch off. I don't see an M3 at the beginning of your code. Do you have an M5 at the end that turns it off? Can you post the end of the code?
Also, what post processor are you running in SheetCam?
I don't think it's a wiring problem, since you said you can toggle the torch with the button.

The post processor is Mach 3 post processor. I can not verify the m5 tonight because its out in the shop and its like 20 something degrees out there tonight. I will check it out when I go out there in the morning. I would guess it has a m5 code because as soon as it reaches the end of the program the torch does shut off.
Maybe I need a code snippet for the M3???
Thanks for your help.

It should be in the mach 3 post processor. You can edit the post in SheetCam and check.

The window where you select the post processor has an edit button.

In college, they taught us that there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

I think I have figured out what I did wrong. Evidently I was using the wrong post processor because once I changed it to Mach3 plasma I started to see the m3 code in there.
I loaded a redesigned g code into mach 3 and now the torch comes on.
One more step forward.
My next hurdle is torch height control.
