Bending Aluminum

Post by Eagle Mtn Metal Works »

Hello everyone: I have a project to make some brackets out of aluminum and need to know the best type to use? I was planning on at least 3/16" thick. This will be holding a 30" counter tops. I will oll so need to be able to bend each one at the fold line. Thank's in advance.

Hi, I made a bunch of shelving for a fire truck this past summer and used 3000 series 3/16" smooth aluminum and it worked out very well. I wouldn't go much if any thicker than that because it may crack or split when bending...

I believe that the 3003 grade is one that should handle the bending.
