Wiggly axis

Post by nick7251 »

I don't know if I should post here, or create an account and post on the LinuxCNC forum. But I figured I would go here first because I would like to see this forum get more content.

My problem (other than being a complete Linux Noob) is that when I push an arrow to move an axis it starts doing tiny wiggles back and for really fast and gradually gets larger and larger to about 1/2" back and forth, then the software turns off.

If I turn the machine back on in the software then go to the MDI screen I can G0 X1 and it will move about an inch, then starts the wiggle thing as described above. I've clearly done something wrong but have no idea even where to start. I've looked at PNCconf, and I think I set things up right.

Any ideas where to look would be helpful.

Mesa 7i96 XYYZ configuration. No limit switches.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Clearly something wrong. A bit of along shot. you don't have your step and direction signals the wrong way round?

Maybe. You mean my wired connections? I'd double check that tomorrow.

I checked my wiring. As I understand it, I think it is right. Take a look.

Any other thoughts of what I can look at or try?

Looks OK to me. I would post up on the Linuxcnc forum where you will get excellent support from Peter Wallace (PCW), the owner of Mesa and others as well. I just thought that was worth checking out. Also, try making your step timings in your ini file quite high 5000 and 20000. Sometimes they are too short and will cause problems

Nick, it was great to see your problem was solved by a simple text file edit after feedback from the Linuxcnc forum while I was sleeping!

Forums are always a bit funny with file uploads they will accept so I figured it would not be possible to upload your hal and ini files here. Plus there are many more experienced eyes on the other forum willing to help you out from all over the world which gives 24/7 coverage.

Thanks for all your help Rod. I am so glad to get it going. I will admit I am pretty clumsy when it comes to Linux systems. But I am learning every day, and I prefer editing the plain text file for these settings over what I had to do in Mach3 and my windows set up and it's controller. I am excited to be making meaningful progress. One of my issues is it is Winter here, and my shop isn't heated. So I can't spend too much time out there before I am frozen solid. :-D

Half your luck! Its been 95 and above here! So I've been staying out of the workshop for the opposite reason!
