Shop Sign

Post by AmajubaEng »

Not up to everyone else's standard on here quite yet, but here goes! :D

Made a sign and hanger brackets to hang over the counter in our shop to advertise our new Plasma capability. (Crappy Blackberry Photo...)

Do you have DXF file for this? I would like one for my shop.

I am guessing that you have NO design software for drawing your own DXF files, right? You should really look into getting something that will allow you to draw your files when you need them, if only so you have more freedom to create original designs, and make changes to existing designs. There are several programs out there for vector editing. I can draw a sign like this for you easily, and I do not charge for my work. I do it for FUN! But I am a little bit stunned that some plasma table owners cannot do this for themselves. It is like a person owning a commercial kitchen and asking someone for a recipe to bake a potato. Look at Inkscape, Google SketchUp, DesignSpark Mechanical, CorelDraw and about a dozen other software programs that will open up a whole world of possibilities for you!

I appreciate you. I'm waiting for torchmate to send me the software for cutting out stuff. I'm a vocational teacher at a high school and we just got out table with no software.

Where are you located? I do not know about Torchmate Software. I do not know if it only cuts designs, or if it comes with design tools to make your own designs. Good luck with your project!

Yeeeaaaahhhhh .... That is an error in the FONT. It imports wrong into the Torchmate software. I saw it and changed it. Thanks!

Torchmate will do a fine job. I'm not sure if you have experience with any other platform or not and perhaps it's best if you don't. :HaHa All kidding aside I purchased my TM with no cnc knowledge whatsoever and though it took a ton of practice I managed to figure it out. The main thing to me was adapting to working within it's set of parameters. I really like the drawing tools as scan/trace isn't my style. Way too many features to list here. Overall a great program in my opinion.

May the learning curve be gentle,

I loaded the TM Educational software onto my computer. WHAT drawing tools? What am I missing? I didn't see anything in that program that pertained to drawing.

I'd say you're missing the little pencil icon that says "drawing tools" when the cursor is over it. See link, I'm pretty sure since David downloaded the Edu/trial version also he can perhaps provide more insight.

As I play with the software more, I see that it has some tools. I am so used to DesignEdge and the ease of drawing and manipulating anything with that software. TM has a "SHAPES" button that leads you to begin with a circle or a square, etc. I suppose I would get comfortable with it after a while, but it is the old adage, "Once you've tasted steak, you don't want hot dogs."

My little pencil says "Graphic Edit Tools" but I get your point.

Having used TM exclusively for he past decade plus I know how you feel. Inkscape and Corel Draw don't have anywhere near the same feel as I'm used to and therefore I have nowhere near the same level of proficiency. It's to such an extent I hardly find it motivating.

To note, once you get past the simplicity of the shape tools logo there are many settings etc. for their modification once dragged out on screen.

Just my personal opinion, it's a great tool with which I've had much success.
