Santa maria knock down style grill

Post by Jbrock »

Made this a while back. It turned out real nice. Even made a lid for it to keep some of the smoke contained. Its made out of aluminum so its lightweight and easy to carry. Knock it down, take it to wherever, put it together and use it.

Very nice work. I'll bet there would be quite a market for these if you decide to go into limited production.
Thanks for sharing your photos.

The idea has crossed my mind. If I were to do another I'd build it around a store bought porcelain grate. Not that the expanded metal is bad. It's just easier to get a replacement if needed.

Cool concept.
The aluminum would definitely make it easier to haul around knocked down
Also, It is a good idea to start with a store bought grille. much lighter and less to stow.

I have made a few from 1/4" rod, which is cheap and more customizable.
After fabricated, I have washed with dish soap (after removing dingleberries) to get factory oils off.
then sprayed with cooking oil and cured in my oven, and repeated the process, which works great.
Can be cured in back yard cookers too
great idea you got there
