They are really cool when they are put together but the dragonfly had me scratching my head for alittle while trying to figure out how it went together. Adjusting all the slots so they slide together takes sometime also but i have gotten to be a ninja at it. I have gotten many a compliment on them and I try to tell them that all I did was cut them out and hit them with some rattle can rustolem and all the hard work was done by someone else but they still seem impressed. I have had some offers to buy them but I really dont know how much to charge and what they have offered to pay is WAY TO LOW frankly?

The ones i have made so far are out of scrap 14ga hot rolled and there is some clean up on them and I cant seem to get the slots to slid together nice so I have to clean those up with a bandsaw which ends up translating into a couple of hours with clean up and bandsaw work not including welding them together and painting them.

I have built 3 butterflies and 6 dragonflies so far Metal Troll, I know how much time it takes on cutting and cleaning them also assembly and welding, the painting is also time consuming, if it helps you out I get $475.00 for the butterfly and $550.00 for the dragonfly. That is up in Northern Ontario, Canada mind you. In Arizona I am not sure what you will get for them, but hope this gives you a platform.

Thanks for the information Plasmajoe it is very helpful. That actually helps me out a great deal and lets me know that I am on the right track with my pricing. I was looking at $300 for the Dragonfly and $250 for the Butterfly painted and i was thinking of knocking $50 off the price if I dont pay them and leave them raw steel because alot of people seem to like how the hot rolled rusts naturally. I think I might increase the price alittle bit now that I have a idea what you are charging and see what happens.

Here is one that we did. We used Metal Finishes Plus on it. The wings were done in rainbow torch and the body was a combination of copper and pewter.

The butterfly that I made is 24 inches tall and roughly 12 inches wide and 30 inches from tip to tail.

The dragonfly is 12 inches tall 30 inch wing span and almost 36 inches long.

Metal Troll I must be stupid, thats new revelastion for me :D The wings on the butterfly only has one set of slots for both sets of wings?? how did you attach the second set of wings? I cut one out today was going to just tack weld right behind the first set of wing on the same tab, but though maybe I should ask first maybe i'm missing something.

Ya the dragonfly was little more complicated, but the Butterfly only has one set of slots for two pairs of wings?? unless I'm doing something wrong. I think I will modify the tab today and put a second set of slots.

Ah yes the butterfly I just made the slots on the larger wing pieces bigger and slid them over the top of the steel to the inside of small rear wings. This allows me to move them and change there angle so not every one I make is exactly the same.

Aren't they. I didn't cut them. Someone posted them on the web. They cut them with a laser out of CD's. Wish I had a laser.

Puzzles are awesome. Cut out the Dragonfly the other day and very pleased with the results. Just so you know your projects are really inspiring and motivating to my students. They really dig the projects.
