Decorative brackets for ugly porches, etc.

Post by AnotherDano »

Bumped my head on a cantilevered porch. While I was 'talking to it', I noticed how sad it looked. Naw,,, just plain ol' ugly.

Decided to spruce it up a bit.

14ga cold rolled with powder coat. (Silver Vein and Solar Rain)
Not meant to be structural, just un-ugly.

Note the temporary nail to hold it for the picture. These will be on the table at the farmer's market, with the pictures to let folks know what they are - before they ask.

Speaking of asking,,, What price yould you ask for a pair of them?

Thx,

Dano

Sorry Loyd, the cut file is on the shop computer and I can't give you that info. I gave up on using the formulas to determine pricing. In my market, it works against me.

Seems like no matter how much time I spend on a design, if it comes out to be more than $40.00 no one is interested. I limit my work to the size of the powder coating oven I have. It will grow someday, but for now, all I want to do is have pieces (signs, etc.) out there in the public view so folks can ask there they came from.

Starting out in a small market is tough.

You are right on the tough...I have given away so much stuff it's not funny. I have had good returns and no returns! As far as my most consistent seller it is the desk plaques @ 25 dollars. People love them and it only take 4 to make a $100 bill! I would think you could easily get $25.00 per piece on those brackets.

Man things go for cheap in the States! Around here, wholesale price on something like that would be likely around $65.00

Nice work!

Looks good,
to get 2 items out of one design just scale it so the solid part fits a post, (4x4, 4x6 or whatever) and the scroll pattern
hangs off. Cut it from 10 ga or 3/16" and you've got a double plant basket or bell hanger.

Now, that's a fine idea!

Thanks, Bigrhamr

I have been making those type of corner brackets for a number of years now, I sell them in ranges of $35.00 to $55.00 each, depending on design requested. I have found over the years that aluminium is the way to go if you do not have powder coating system available. No rust streaks over the years, just be careful on bending the plate for it not to crack. I have a sweet deal with a home building company and I sell lots of these to them for there homes they build, if you know of a company around you approach them with this, it may go very well for you. The building company loves it for they use them as their trade mark for there decks and porches. I hope this helps you out AnotherDano, here is another idea for you on a street facing deck or porch, house number bracket on one corner and street on the other, or name of family. This sells well for me also. Good luck.
