Plasma Cutter Weak Power

Post by attila0216 »

Good Morning to All,

Is there anyone ever had an issue with plasma power source not generating full power? Here is what happened and still unsolved problem. I have a Hypertherm PMX 45XP which is a great little unit but because is limited to 1/2" mechanized pierce i Purchased 2pieces 120Amps cutter from China. One of the unit works great but the other one just not able to cut over 1/4" thick sheet. The other exactly same unit cuts over 1" easily. They are Pilot arc machines. Manufacturer has shipped me new control cicuit motherboard to change but no difference. Any suggestions?

Are you using the same cables? Kinda sounds like a crappy ground cable or a bad switch/pot in the chassis. The hi voltage Cascade may be leaking as well, what band/model? I have fixed quite a few of these cheaper Tig/plas machines.

I'm using factory cable. High voltage leaking is possible because when i wanted to measure voltage across workclamp and electrode my multimeter burned out and it was set on 1000VDC.
