I too would have never thought of this! Awesome. But now that you are making my mind work... My first question is how expensive is it to have things "plated"? Never really thought of it but now can think of all kinds of things to plate but is it even a possibility or just for those "really special" projects? Thanks for your time. love it, I actually cut one of these out, found the design online, not your design, but a similar rocket shape. Never thought of making it a lamp, my brain is too slow, LOL I'll post a pic of mine in a bit, its been rusting outside for a couple of months LOL

I'm curious about the other materials used to assemble this rocket. Do you have a materials list?

Are the vertical bars a piece of 3/8 round stock, threaded on both ends? How are the pieces on the upper cone, joined together?

Thanks everyone for you kind comments. Everything I posted here is an original design. I think I tend to go with shapes that are familiar to everyone then try to present them in a unique way. The biggest cost of these pieces is plating. I live in the Los Angeles area and out of the 20 or so metal plating companies; I only found 2 that would do my small jobs. And of those only 1 that was reliable enough give repeat business too. I usually use UPS ground to send them the pieces but because of proximity it gets there overnight. Plating cost will vary widely and depend on several factors. I hate sanding and polishing so I send them my pieces dross free and with the edges finished if needed but with the mill scale untouched, this will cost more. The place I use was able to estimate the polishing cost for me before they started but after I sent them the pieces. Another thing to consider is finish they usually range from some kind of a satin to a highly polished mirror like finish, and again more polishing more work more cost. When chrome plating steels they first put down a layer of copper then a layer of nickel then the chrome, I think they stick better this way. So the least expensive way to go is a copper plated satin finish. If I remember correct it cost about $250 to plate this piece, I know I'm not getting any breaks from these guys because my jobs are so small but any kind of volume work should lower your cost. Also I did not have them clear coat the copper pieces thinking that it will get a nice patina overtime and of course if I did it would have cost more.

Thanks Guys, yes I used 5050 SMD high intensity LED strip lights. And I hide a rotary on/off stitch under the nose cone and ran the wiring down the center. If I had to do it over I would have used a rotary dimmer switch. I am working on some instructions I will post soon.
