VCarve dxf/svg trouble

Post by FartAttack »

I am very new to this world. I was turned onto this website a few days ago by a VCarve trainer and find it awesome. I have found several projects for my welding class to work on. My issue is that when I go to open some of the dxf files I am unable to. The same goes with SVG. My process may be made difficult because I am on this website on a mac, then transferring the files to VCarve Pro on a pc.

When I go to open some dxf files and VCarve Pro pops up a warning saying:
Error in drawing header on line/offset 1. Do you want to continue processing the file? yes or no
I'll click yes and VCarve says: No data was imported from the dxf/dwg file... Do you want to check the file for errors and try again to read the data?
I'll click yes and get the first warning again. Click yes and VCarve says: failed to import data

When I go to open any SVG, I get: Unable to parse the given SVG file. -Could not find root SVG node.

I do not know if I am posting in the correct spot.

Thank you for your help and time!

Sometime moving between different software programs there is a formatting problem. If you have a program on the Mac for imaging you may see if they can open the files and then save them with that program using a different name ( I like adding a "A" to the name so I can relate to the original). That may correct any format problem. Another thing download Inkscape for the Mac (free) and import the SVG into Inkscape and again save it that to see if you can use the file. Can you directly download on the PC?

Thank you for your response.

The school issued both computers. When they bought all of the stuff to set this up, the laptops (PC) they bought have no internet capability. No ethernet port or wifi capabilities. This has been my understanding of how they work. I cannot get my PC to connect to my home wifi to save my life.

How old is your PC do you know if it has a network port in it, (or a cat 5 jack/ether on the back). You may need to buy a USB WIFI adapter then make the software connections for it to work.

I've been messing with it all day. The PC cannot connect, also there are no ports. I was able to use another PC that is able to be on the internet. I was trying to work on something I found on here. I will include the link for it below. I get the same "error in drawing header on line/offset 1" message. It is a dxf file. I have been able to upload some dxf files onto VCarve (no internet PC) and edit them. I cannot seem to figure out what is going on for files like the one I will include a link to.

I also tried the Inkscape app on mac and it does not seem to want to do anything.

Thank you so much for your help.

Where are you teaching? What city and State?

Which plasma table are you using?

What software are you using to operate the table?
People will be more able to help you when they know what you are using!

I will have to bow out here. I have no experience with four out of the five items listed above.

I mostly figured it out. I was trying to open a temporary file. If I open the actual file 9 times out of 10 it works right. Thank you all!
