Can someone help me

Post by kreaves »

I wanted to ask if someone could help me get this ready to cut for a memorial for a friend? I greatly appreciate any help giving.

Have a blessed day.

I changed up the flags, still needs some bridging but this should get you started.

Here is what I came up with. I drew this by hand. I tried to follow the original design as closely as I could.

I use DesignEdge which is PlasmaCam's proprietary design software. I tried a trace in Inkscape but I was fighting with it too much. It was just easier to draw it by hand.

I'd sure like to watch a video of how you did that! I struggle with Inkscape. I can make it do what i want, but it doesn't come naturally.

Great work Rokcrler! That is a nice clean file, and as you say - just add some creative bridging and ready to cut. Or do a layered piece with backer and attach the loose pieces to the backer. I expect that the OP does not have access to Design Edge, but since Inkscape is free - your screen shots are a great way to get him started.

Y 'all are going to have to excuse the fumbling around at the menus, im used to shortcut buttons now...also, the screen capture didnt get the image trace, I'll work on redoing it later and update the video.
I couldn't find the original flags from earlier, so these look different, but the process is the same.

Joe... if you want to do a zoom or whatever... or whoever else wants to, i'd be down for a meet :Like

Nice instructional video! Thanks for sharing. Even without the sound, I get the basic idea of your process. I will take a close look when I get a chance and let you know if I have specific questions.

Thanks David... I dont do audio... I tend to fumble even more... but... I'll see if I can convince myself to record audio..
if you follow the screenshots along with the video, it will all make sense..
Im working on redoing it as we speak. It takes longer making the tutorial than it does the actual art piece :HaHa

I don't do audio either. That's why I stick with sequential screen shots. But video probably take less time, I have just never learned how to do it.

I watched the video several times. sorry, but it did not help me at all. The cursor wanders, then something happens... with NO IDEA what just happened.

Thanks for the effort though.

I like the videos with sound, so even with my sound off I can follow along with the Closed Captions on Youtube.

The screen capture only caught the main screen not the other other windows...
Tried again with audio but something is up with my headset or something.

You might consider reaching out to Robert Johnson. He's got plenty of youtube videos on the Plasmacam software and knows what he is doing. Robert is a member on this forum. He has just posted here.

I have recently fallen in love with the spline tool - I need to make a video on it and clean up my other video library (reorganize and offer additional info). Thanks for the shout, I'm getting myself in gear! I haven't made a video in a couple years! Unacceptable! lol

Hey! I never turn down knowledge from those "in the know." We could ZOOM I guess. I know that Inkscape is a powerful program, but I have not worked with it enough to even instinctively know the BASICS. If I even find the TIME to go through the manual, I am sure I could get myself up to speed. My issue is my short term memory. I can learn something, but if it is not then a part of my daily life, the knowledge will be completely lost in a matter of a couple of weeks.

I use CAMTASIA from TechSmith Software. It is a very easy video editing program that gives you lots of control. It isn't on the level of ADOBE PREMIERE but for the purpose of my DesignEdge training videos on You Tube, it works well enough.

Thou art a busy guy! I still haven't jumped into Vinyl Master, and I know that you have shown how fantastic that program is for presentation purposes.

I wish we could learn like they do in the movie THE MATRIX ... "Operator ... I need to know Inkscape." (seconds pass) "I know Inkscape!"
