self locking latch

Post by timberfab »

Hello again,

i am rebuilding a few poorly designed, homemade from scrap, self dumping hoppers. i need a simple self locking latch or gravity latch that will hold about 1000lbs. sort of an over grown gate latch. i know what i want just can't find a picture to go off of. does any one have a file or image of file that could help me out?

well i found what i was looking for at the hardware store and drew it up. there are 2 sets of catches and 2 sets of bases. on can be used with a spring to hold the catch shut. there is a big and small base. Scale them up or down, and use the appropriate size material. connect 2 of the same bases in your cad program and bend into a U shape for a really strong durable unit. shoot you can even drill them out to accept a pad lock.

Gosh go crazy with options!

*edit* Didn't notice that the pivot holes were messed up. So i re worked them to get the pivot holes to line up correctly
