powermax 65 0-50 code will not clear

Post by welderdoug »

I have a powermax 65, along with a plasma cam dhc2. Within the last 2 weeks the 0-50 code sprang up intermittently, but tonight in the middle of a long cut on some 3/8" it came on and will not clear out with cycling power. Checked and replaced consumables and still nothing. Machine is only maybe 3 months old, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

That code is for retaining cap off there is a plunger that the cap pushes up to trip a switch in the torch assembly. The switch may have gone bad or disconnected. see attached picture of switch and the plunger. you need to remove the 3 screws to get to it and unscrew the outer cover.

I would think so as it is a safety for torch operations.
why not call hypertherm tech support and check with them about what my cause the problem?

I did, they want me to take it to my local dealer. They are backed up with pipeline business, and since i got mine directly from hypertherm through plasma cam, it could be weeks before I get it diagnosed and warrantied.

Disassembling the torch will not void the warranty. Make sure (first) that your consumables are genuine Hypertherm........if you bought them online from a non-Hypertherm dealer and got a crazy low price.....be suspicious. There are copies of Hypertherm parts in almost identical packaging with Hypertherm logos and part numbers, etc. Next, disconnect the power to your Powermax. Disassemble the torch and ensure the switch is not loose or broken (I heard of one that had loose mounting screws), and make sure the wiring connector is snapped into place properly.

I did all of this and found that the cap off switch was not making properly, found one online last night, and had it overnighted. Thanks everyone for the help!!

I am getting the 0-50 code on powermax 65 thats 4 weeks old and never fired , according to the comments in the post i checked the plunger switch so I checked my machine torch head and found the plunger switch connector had broken wires so I exchanged it for a new one and well i am still getting the same code and yes I installed the consumables 4 times and switched out to different parts 3 times and the code will not go away !!!!

As I advised on your post on another site, tech service at Hypertherm is your best bet. 1 800 643 9878 or technical.service@hypertherm.com .
