Logic Trace CNC Digitizing system???

Post by cbassjr »

Does anyone have a logic group digitizing system and if so what results have you had. I'm getting ready to order one and wondering what good or bad problems anyone has had?

Not sure exactly what you mean by "Logic Trace". If you mean you have a part you want to copy, then convert into a .dxf file that can be cut on many cnc plasma cutting machines....then, yes, you can trace a part on a piece of paper, scan it on a scanner, save it as a .bmp (bitmap) then import the bitmap into a lot of different softwares that have the ability to do "Raster to Vector" conversion.

PlasmaCam software can do this, Arbor Image software can do this and there are others. There usually is some file cleanup and repair that needs to be done, but in many cases it only takes a few minutes.

Jim
Its true it can be that simple and does work ,logic trace cnc dxf is a piece of software john walsh in texas has written to take a pen or pointer device and output directly to a dxf file .
Its works quite slick and for a guy like me who does not like cad prgs its up my alley---any coloring book would do
and even metal tracing can be done
I was asked to show how the logic trace cnc dxf program could copy metal parts .Buts it is true what you're saying just scan a diagram and clean it up

I selected 2 wrenches and a usb camera mount from my cnc machine

You may want to look at SheetCam's program called "Scanything" you can find it on youtube.

software is free and I bought a camera from Ebay for $50.
Seems to do the samething but you table does the drawing/tracing the part.

This is really cool, we have a similiar program on our tables, it uses a lazer to trace not a camera.
If they get all the bugs worked out, think from what I have heard it is still in testing, :D it will be awesome!!! :D This will be great for people who can not trace with a CAD program......just like ours is. Check out ours on YouTube link below.

Just wondering if anybody has used one of these boards yet? I have some large components I need to trace to get the base measurements from and then design around in AutoCAD. just curious on the feedback about them as I have been looking at them for a good amount of time and am debating on pulling the trigger on ordering one.

JUST a note the SheetCam "SCAN ANYTHING" software is NOT free. You have to buy a license to run it. You also have to be running MACH3 to use it I believe.

It works with LINUX and CommandCNC as well.

Can anyone reply to the questions about the Logic Trace Digitizing System. It is a couple of yrs since any responses to the initial question so I’m wondering if there are any more users of this program. Is it very useful and worth the $$’s they r asking?

I have a vary old digitizer board used for construction estimating ( free ) then bought the software,It works ok. Tracing is rough but can be cleaned up. Point to point works vary good. What's cool is it will go through cardboard and wood. It's fast and simple to use. Bottom line I don't have a lot into this so yes it's worth it to me

I use photoshop for laser engraving but it is handy for conversion. Posterize the image to however many layers, select the layers and you can individualize each. Sadly photoshop wont convert even though it WILL trace perfectly! I use coreltrace 11 to do the final conversion but about any will do. Most people seem to have issues making the images right for proper tracing. It took me several months to develop a solid method but you'll get there in time.

I bought one a few years back from John Walsh. Had an issue cutting a flange which involved tracing on circle inside of another. John fixed that issue and a few others and sent revised software to install. So far all is working OK. I am still learning about the table. For the time being CNC Plasma is a Hobby until retirement.
