Compass dxf file
OK so I have done some search's and have only came up with one compass and for some reason it comes out squiggly and I'm looking for a 16 point compass . I have tried working with this picture but for some reason it keeps coming out squiggly even after I trace it. Does anyone have this design done you would like to share? Thanks.

Re:
Just drew it up from scratch in Coreldraw.
Problem is can only export in SVG which tested good in Sheetcam.
Did a DXF export but when I opened it in Sheetcam, it was messed up.
Maybe someone can get you a dxf from one of these files.

Re:
Yes Beefy deserves all the credit for the drawing I just took his svg file and turned it into a dxf per his request. It was a very clean drawing and totally cut ready at the time I converted it. Thank you!!beefy wrote:Largemouthlous dxf is actually the file that I spent over an hour drawing from scratch for you. which software did you use to convert the svg. The dxf export from Coreldraw is a damn nuisance at times.

I couldn't open the cdr with corel4X so I opened the svg file and then used the DXF tool for corel. Then just down loaded here.

could you do me a favour: attach a copy of your dxf export from Coreldraw, I'm using X5. Since reading a post from you not so long ago, I've also been using 2008 version of dxf.
I'd like to see if your dxf export opens in my Sheetcam, when mine won't. If yours does then there's something different about our dxf files.
Cheers,

I keep forgetting I've got DXF Tool on my laptop. I tried that this morning only to find my license was no longer valid for some reason. Time to get onto James Leonard and get him to re-activate it.

Re:
For your info Keith the file that Murray has uploaded there, some of the corners are cut off in my sheetcam also.
I tried a few different exports from your cdr file using x7, I found using R11 export format the best out of dxf's the corners were all good just the slighty pointy arcs.
DXF tool made all the difference on the dxf Lou uploaded, it's not available for x7 though as far as I can see.
SVG gave the perfect file though.
Nice drawing by the way!
Cheers

Thanks very much Murray.
All I can say is the Gods must favour you, me and Sean both have problems when we import your file .
Here's the screenshot of your DXF imported into my Sheetcam. Wonder what on earth could be different in our Sheetcam programs.

Thanks for that info Sean, and for the compliment. I don't feel so bad knowing I'm not the only one with this dxf issue. I've emailed James about my DXFTool license, can't wait to get if back on line now LOL.SeanP wrote:For your info Keith the file that Murray has uploaded there, some of the corners are cut off in my sheetcam also.

Re:
Regarding the DXFTool and the loss of my license.
Emailed James and he said that probably happened because the computer name has changed. That might be true because I was messing about with the home network not so long ago.
Never realised the unique computer ID for DXFTool gets changed when the computer name is changed. I thought that ID was hardware based.
Just something to bare in mind for those that have this great Coreldraw tool.
Keith.

Re:
Got the DXFTool relicensed on my laptop and used it to export the drawing from Coreldraw.
Everything was perfect.
This is a new finding for me regarding this tool. I thought it was only for dealing with curves/arcs but now I realise it's good for more than than. The amount of times a simple thing line straight lines are exported (i.e. dxf) crooked is unbelievable.
DXFTool sorts out this problem too.
Here's James website if anyone is interested, he's got some other tools now.
http://coreldrawtools.com/
James has a very fair licensing system too. He allows you to transfer you license to a new computer when the time comes.
Many add-on tools for Coreldraw have a really weird licensing system tied to the SOFTWARE of your hard drive, NOT the hardware. If you format your hard drive for instance you lose a license despite the hardware not changing at all.

Re:
I wanted to thank you guys for this thread! I had a client wanting some brackets for a bathroom project and was not finding enough of the lead painted antique cast iron brackets to do what she wanted. Asked if I could make something I said I could if she had a preferred design in mind that I could do. then she started talking starfish, sand dollars, fish, Sea Horses... I told her if she could find some of the things she wanted I would see what I could do. She never found anything, but I saw this thread and made a concept drawing and sent it to her, she loved it and ordered a set of 4.. at $35 a pair, cut from 11 ga, I still have to make the flanges and weld them all together... they will be painted seafoam green with a flat white wash on them to look older....
I have been asked to share the DXF for the bracket, and I will but I am not ready to share the cut ready file just yet.
Watch this space!!!
