Resolution
When a table manufacturer says "Resolution .005", what exactly does that mean?

Re: Resolution
I think resolution means the step distance, the smallest movement possible, and has nothing to do with repeatability
steps on a cnc machine are no different than pixels on a computer screen
.005 resolution is 200 steps per inch
that's not a very fine resolution
if that is being achieved by microstepping a direct drive stepper motor I'd pass....

It's the shopsabre shopmaster pro. They're steppers. Not sure if its direct drive, doesn't look like it though

Re: Resolution
hmmm, it has a ball screw on Y, then rack and pinion on X
I'm going to guess that the .005" resolution is the worst case in full step mode and it's configurable to do better, and they don't stick you with a full step driver just to charge a lot more for a microstepping driver just to get better resolution just so there is some point in having linear bearings and anti-backlash ballscrews (and optional servos), and that the X axis drive is not single sided or direct drive, and that when they say it has microstepping motors they actually mean it has microstepping motor drivers and that they didn't intentionally misword that statement
that's a lot of guessing...
I didn't look over the software....
