Andy - Advanced Machine Control is the ($998) is the upgrade you would need for automatically indexing longer sheets thru the table. You can get around that limitation and do it manually to achieve the same end result.

Here is the process I used to edit your existing file for cutting. The last thing I would normally do before creating the cut paths is to use the Smooth tool to smooth and reduce node count. I type "H" (Smooth) and then "0.02" for the smooth margin. In the case of your file it reduces the node count from 8198 to 6698. I will attach a pcm file with cut paths at the end of this so you can see what it looks like. If you provide me with the actual values you want for cut speed, rapid speed, kerf width, lead-in length, etc. I will run those thru and provide you with a cut ready file you can use to do the automatic indexing.

adbuch, Thanks for running through that for me, it was very helpful. It's funny how many different ways there are to correct the same issue. I'm not sure where to find the file that you attached.

SORRY, Found it. Thanks

Andy - I generally Detect Intersections first and try to correct those. Then I look for open paths and correct those. If you have advanced design it gives you the option to show solid closed paths, which is very handy for visualizing which part details might fall thru when cut. Once everything looks good, then Smooth (sometimes it has no real effect so I don't use it for those drawings). After smooth, then Detect Intersections once more as sometimes the smooth operation will product unwanted intersections that were not there before the smoothing was applied.

This process is pretty much the same for any imported file. Once you get the hang of it - it goes pretty quickly.

In Vetrics you needed to split the file into the upper and lower half to cut a full 4x8 object. I see that isn't necessary in Design Edge, I think. I am interested in getting some online training.
Andy - if you still have the Vectric file, post it so we can have a look. VCarve Pro and Aspire also have tools for dealing with intersections and other defects. I use Aspire quite a bit for cnc wood routing, and am fairly familiar with it's editing capabilities. The unfortunate thing is that VCarve Pro/Aspire are not forwardly compatible, so if you have a file that was created with a newer version than the one I am using, I would not be able to open it in crv or crv3d format. I am currently using Aspire version 10.514 which is several years old. But you can export as dxf from VCarve Pro/Aspire and the dxf can be opened by any version.

Andy - I exported as dxf from Design Edge and imported to Aspire to check it out.

Andy - you can also split the tree/bear path and index manually. Let me know if you want details on the process and I will be happy to oblige.
