Spider files
Has anyone cut a spider puzzle file? I have a few and it seems I have to make the thing 5 feet tall to get the legs etc to work as the plasma cuts them so thin they don't look right. Also the slots are an issue. If someone has a decent spider file out there can you share it and what size did you make it and from what thickness material.

Here is a picture of the spider that I made and then added the hour glass to the body of the spider to make her a black widow.

Re: Spider files
I cut this one, and it was about 13/15 inches across when put together it seemed to work ok, but I can't figure how to assemble all of it..
Does anyone have a competed one I can look at?

Re: Spider files
The request for a picture of the final product had me blasting snot this morning.... Sorry... But ran into that same issue with a 3d frog, some kind of dinasaur forget which one now, and no doubt will run into it again. Love these 3d things, uses up holes in the steel sheets used for larger cuts... I have three kids, 10-14 years old that live nearby... when I cant quite get it... I give it to them and if they figure it out... I weld it together and let them paint it, and keep it... THe oldest boy Mark, he gets to try his hand at welding one pretty soon...Works well... hmmm they have had that friggen frog now for a week my guess... scrap heap...
Buuuut they do make wood puzzles for next to penny's, And those things come with directions on assembly... Last resort order a wood one... and see if it helps.

You may find a picture of the one you are looking for, OR new ones that you like.

Re: Spider files
I just cut this as I'm sitting here and noticed that when I use an 1/8 end mill on 1/8 plastic that its cutting too much into the plastic for the legs and the rest of the parts to fit correctly.

Hmm, this is "plasma" spider, the "cnc plasma cutting online community"kawika wrote:I just cut this as I'm sitting here and noticed that when I use an 1/8 end mill on 1/8 plastic that its cutting too much into the plastic for the legs and the rest of the parts to fit correctly.
serious note though, all files 3D files need to be checked thoroughly before cutting as different thickness material obviously needs different thickness slots.

Re: Spider files
Here's one from Dave H. files. You do have to check the slots for the thickness of your metal and by looking at the picture it helps to put them together.

Re: Spider files
Just cut the 36" spider today, I reduced it 30% and used 10 gauge steel. Had to fix a couple flaws that showed up on sheet cam but turned out very nice. Thanks for the file

Re: Spider files
File worked awesome, I reduced the size to fit my table. Its a lot of parts to cut in one run so it overheated my Miller Spectrum380. Next time I think I'll cut it in two runs.
But thanks for the file,
