Hi
I've got some 25mm mild steel that I need to cut on my table. I have a hypertherm 105, it says in the manual to do a edge start but can't seem to do it!!
My torch needs to have the material directly under it otherwise it won't arc, it just miss fires.

Re: Edge start
Put a scrap next to the edge where the start is to give the arc something to bite into.

Re: Edge start
Edge starting is a bit tricky. You either put a scrap next to it as Dreiswig suggested, or position the torch so it is just a bit over halfway over the material to be cut.

Re: Edge start
Edge start is easy....line up the center of the shield orifice directly on the edge. Use about a 2 second pierce delay time and about a .12" pierce height. Jim Colt Hypertherm

Re: Edge start
You could set the machine to the perf metal setting also, just to be sure not to lose arc
